[ THE CHALLENGE ]  Facilitate the development of housing  while addressing the city’s need ot preserve its heritage and image.

[ THE RESPONSE ]  Concerns about waterfront development, historic character, and open space preservation have prevented the construction of housing needed for affordability.  Working with municipal planners and consultant Karen Sunnarborg, Abacus developed approaches to waterfront and transit oriented mixed use development appropriate for the city’s fine grained context.
